Seek’s New Partner

February 6, 2009 by Geoff Jennings

Wow! I’ve just happened across an exciting innovation in the online recruiting space. Thinkresources.com.au is offering an instructional on how to place jobs on Seek.com.au. Talk about value for money. Once you’ve written your ad., they’ll approve it, and they’ll place it live on Seek within an hour – but wait, there’s more! The ad. will be placed for 30% less than what you’d pay going directly through Seek. (see here)

I’m so excited and can’t wait to spread the news to my casual-rate paying colleagues. Why on earth would they elect to place their ads. directly when they can do business with these “proud partners” of seek.com.au (sneaky buggers, Seek, why no press release about this new partnership?):

As proud partners of many online job portals such as seek.com.au – we provide assistance to our clients with producing top knotch advertising on the latest advertising mediums.
With savings of up to 30% off the generic prices and with valuable advise such as optional proof read this is an opportunity for your business to save money whilst attracting great staff!

Personally, I wouldn’t want to access a communication service that can’t ensure its own copy is free of spelling errors. But maybe that’s just me – I’m sure there’ll be loads of clients willing to forgo accuracy for such a fantastic saving. Top notch.

Note: Relish in glory while you can, Think Resources. What were you thinking?

It’s ironic that they also offer advice on preparing a CV.

“Ensure that you spell check and then proof read your CV thoroughly before submitting it to each role. Just one small typing error could potentially ruin your application”

    On their homepage:
“We are accountants, so we are on the same wavelength – and we know what your looking for”.

    ‘your’

“As Australia’s fastest growing city, its not hard to imagine why there is so many opportunities here on the Gold Coast”

So this firm is Australia’s largest city’?
    ‘its’
    ‘is so many’

I could read more but I’ve had my chuckles for the day.

Hi Geoff this is the owner of Think Resources.

I’m stoked to see that you actually managed to find my brand spanking new site! I’m new to the web-game and have been trying all sorts of SEO tips on how to get my site indexed well.

I obviously didn’t spend enough time on the proof-reading side of things! You know what it’s like when you run your own business. Thank you (and Mr. Treenan) for pointing out those spelling errors.

Your post sparked an interesting response from Seek.com.au, apparently I was mis-informed on what I could/could not advertise. Our discount still exists as part of our everyday recruitment solution package where we charge 10% for permanent placements. Maybe it’s my accounting background, but I think our fees are significantly discounted when compared to other agencies.

Anyway, feel free to get in touch with any other pointers – always welcome.

    Elvina

Welcome to the “web-game”, Elvina. I think your situation is perhaps indicative of the general feeling in the business world that the web operates with more pliable rules than other forms of publishing.

I appreciated the way you handled the criticism of your site, however. It’s something I am attempting to achieve with this site – the only way we navigate through our work successfully is via debate and discussion. It’s healthy.

    Please do me one favor?

Don’t ever use the words Top Notch in your content. Knot Ever:)

Elvina, also limit your use of stock images as they are used for other agencies http://www.recruitmentdirectory.com.au/Blog/spot-the-difference-a84.html
