FlogMe – Going, Going SOLD
March 20, 2009 by Geoff Jennings
As a member of the Linkme candidate database I receive regular network updates, including friend requests and messages. These email updates are signed off by the team at Linkme.
I have noticed in my last few of these emails that they are being signed off by third party companies. Here’s one that was prepared earlier:
“George sent you a message.
Follow the link to view the message George sent you about hey guys.

Alternatively, if you’re sure you wish to unsubscribe from this type of email completely, click here .

What’s strange about this email is that when I log into my account to have a look I am directed through the Financial Services Institute of Australasia career portal. careernetwork.finsia.com
Importantly, by doing so I am now under their terms and conditions policy also. See here
Finsia’s Privacy policy; applies to users of the Portal. We use the personal information you give to us to provide you with services under this Portal.
Further, and even more disgustingly, for the past week I have received similar emails from Live In Australia, an immigration visa company. Obviously, LinkMe is selling its members off to the highest bidder.
LinkMe has given folks the opportunity to unsubscribe to “this type of email”. But why should I unsubscribe to something I haven’t subscribed to?
This is madness.

Just an idea – when you give out your e-mail address to sites like this, register with linkme@onlinerecruitment.com.au …. so you can easily track who the culprit was when SPAM comes knocking.
Hi Paul
Nice idea. I am sure the SPAM will start rolling in…

Hey Geoff and Paul,
Thanks for the comments on this one. We now have a large number of feeder channels pushing people into the LinkMe database (such as Finsia) so the number of people joining is starting to take off…which is good but also creates other issues such as this one which is ‘not so good’!
Our groups functionality is also now starting to be used extensively unfortunately however some people have been taking advantage of the ‘email all’ function in public groups so we have now removed this function. ‘Email all’ is now only possible in Private Groups or via the administrator…apologies to anyong feeling a bit ’spammed’ in the meantime.
Is Linkme going to remove the so called “blog” section of the site? It continues to contain spam links and crap content

It seems that the LinkMe system is open for abuse? Do you have systems in place to check the blogs when they are posted?
I tried a post and it passed easily http://www.linkme.com.au/ui/unregistered/blog/BlogPost.aspx?postId=e20b09f75aa64a2ebdb26ad6acc0e2e3
