OMG – No Investor Support

May 31, 2009 by Geoff Jennings · Comments Off

Fairfax’s MyCareer.com.au number of ads stands at 25,000+. Seek’s – 105,000+.

And it’s no wonder. Even the folks who should be supporting MyCareer aren’t advertising with them.

Fairfax NZ is advertising for a Acquisitions and Retentions Manager . Where did they place their ad? Seek.

Then there’s Online Marketing Group, the folks who boast in their job ad that “Fairfax Digital is a strategic investor in our company”, have posted a job for a Online Account Executive position. Guess they don’t have much faith in their investor. They chose to advertise exclusively on Seek.

MyCareer’s Search For Excellence

Past Fairfax Digital CTO Seth Yates has covered the update to MyCareer’s search functionality here already.

Here’s my view. (since I took this home page search box snap shot, they have rolled back to include the sector/sub sector, location e.t.c drop down menus again) MyCareer have informed me that they are running a Test A and Test B search box.

They have gone with the new search suggest keyword technology. Yahoo are using this tool successfully.

Once you make your way to the search results page, you can’t help but notice the new ‘refine your search’ column. With such a nice simple keyword search box on the home page they let themselves down here. Should have kept it slick and given the advertisers the spot light with their job listings.

May I suggest MyCareer, that you keep up the innovation.

Free Wi-Fi for Jobseekers?

The local council for The Rocks in Sydney now offers free Wi Fi access for all. However the major media companies are yet to get on board and take advantage of this idea. Why not?For instance, Fairfax Digital or News Limited could partner up with a Telco and offer free Wi Fi access to its newspaper subscribers or registered job seekers. Seek could leverage from such a partnership with a ripper marketing campaign. In turn, perhaps Jobx could create a hot spot interview zone where its users could be web-cam interviewed while they’re on the move. Here’s an opportunity to extend marketing scope a little. Waddyasay, guys?

Jobfox.com and MyCareer in bed together!

Cashed- up US job board Jobfox.com with candidate/ job matching technology has reportedly struck a technology deal with Fairfax’s employment website Mycareer.com.au

“Jobfox will also grow internationally after completing a strategic co- branding alliance with Australia’s Fairfax Digital, a multimedia company that owns the national job board MyCareer. In the agreement, Jobfox’s proven technology will be incorporated into MyCareer in early 2008.”

The proof will be in the pudding if this helps Mycareer close the gap between itself and Seek
